I think this week’s submissions for the theme of Sloth may have been my collective favorite yet. Even for a sin as seemingly straightforward as laziness, we found three interpretations and uses. Continue reading July 22 Theme: A Taste of Vengeance
Of Vintage Commercials
An increasingly long time ago,
A commercial that ran
On the television of my childhood –
Of food being sloughed off china
Plates into garbage cans –
Warned us that 20 percent of the
World starved while 20 ate like
Kings. Continue reading Free Verse – Sloth – Marcy Erb
Burning Soul V
I don’t have the energy,
The calories it takes
To keep my fire alight,
To roll with the fakeness. Continue reading Free Verse – Sloth – SD
It’s so tempting
To stay sleeping,
Dreaming, only breathing,
Barely guilty of living, succumbing
To the apathy and fear of failing. Continue reading Sloth – Free Verse – JG
Our music reviews seek to trace the narratives that weave between songs and albums. Check out our Rhythmic Fiction tag for other stories told through music.

Welcome to week five of our Seven Deadly Sins series! Our foray into the theme of Envy produced what are probably three of the least similar interpretations yet. This week’s theme may inspire even more disparate submissions!
Burning Soul IV
This world is caving in, I don’t think I’ll last
Cretins surround me, trying to throw me off the path
And you’re no help, I don’t know what to think
When you tease and you pry, seducing me to sink Continue reading Free Verse – Envy – SD
I remember reading
Of Dante’s blinded –
The envious sinners
with eyes sewn shut. Continue reading Free Verse – Envy – JG
I know you.
I know you like the earth
Knows geology: Constantly
Happening but we can’t
Quite Name it. Continue reading Free Verse – Envy – Marcy Erb
We are now reaching sin number four in our seven-part, seven-week poetry series featuring the Seven Deadly Sins! We also had two guest submissions for the first time, which is always exciting. Three of the poems spoke directly about food, with one other focusing on the material side of gluttony. Continue reading July 8 Theme: The Color of Jealousy?
