Amazing Illustration for My Short Story!

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since my short story, “Wolf’s Moon Night,” was published on FiveOnTheFifth.com.

If you haven’t read it yet, then go read it!

Now, my short story has a beautiful title card to go along with it. Check it out!

I worked with Joanna Oriana Pacek to conceptualize this illustration, and she turned it into a stunning water-color painting.

I found her work through Upwork.com. The way she blends colors to set the tone of a piece convinced me that she would be perfect for capturing a mystical and foreboding tone.

I deliberately went into this project with an open mind of what Joanna could create. I didn’t want to simply tell her what to illustrate, so I asked her to first read the story so we could discuss potential concepts. The idea to have the elderly woman kneeling with the ram’s skull was actually hers.

Once we agreed on the basics, I could not wait to see what Joanna would conjure for the lighting and palette of the piece. I think the less realistic style of the woman plays on the protagonist’s perspective as a boy of just eight years.

Have a look at Joanna’s website for more of her work: http://orianapacek.com/

And check her out on Facebook and Instagram!

“Wolf’s Moon Night” is a dark fantasy horror based in the same universe as The Warden of Everfeld: Memento. You can read a bit more about it here: https://eveningsatellite.com/wolfs-moon-night/
