Misplaced Missive #79 – North

Even when I’m running from you
You’re still my true north.
I wish I didn’t have to resort
To fleeing this way, over and over –
Instinctual endeavor, fruitless effort.

You give me blindness;
Relief from visions of violence.
You give me silence;
Relief from chaotic voices,
And their echoes of heart breaking choices.
It makes it hard to deny this:
That I’ll always come back to you.

The further I get, the more arduous the trek,
The more I start to regret,
Being unable to see you.
But this distance I inevitably seek
Ensures reprieve and makes the lies I speak,
Easier to remember; easier to make believe;
Easier to guarantee, you’ll always be my north.

You see, you’re out of reach –
The forbidden beach,
The farthest peak,
The moon from under the sea…
But I still want you in my view,
Even when I’m turning away.

You give me blindness;
Relief from visions of violence.
You give me silence;
Relief from chaotic voices,
And their echoes of heart breaking choices.
It makes it hard to deny this:
That I’ll always come back to you.
