Misplaced Missive #140: Rain

Sometimes what you’ll gain
Isn’t worth what you’ll lose.

I’m done waiting
And wishing
And wondering.
This is the night when the lightning flashes
And the truth is thundering.

A night when all that’s ignored
Chills to the bone, steady as the downpour.
For sure, this is what I denied before;
What I couldn’t see so blinded by
The promise of ‘someday’:
It’s past time to walk away.
I’ve always preferred the rain anyway.

Sometimes what you’ll gain
Isn’t worth what you’ll lose.
Choose to let the resentment
And regret drift away
Carried on sullied waves,
Vow that from now on:
I’ll refuse
To worship the drought
And fear the coming storm.

Author’s Note: So I definitely write this with Garth Brooks’ Thunder Rolls in mind. Only I couldn’t find the original on youtube which was quite the letdown. Soooooo that’s why you get to enjoy a cover song not as intense as the original. Sorry, folks!
